Drainage Ditch Erosion Control for Stormwater Management Systems in Minnesota, Wisconsin, & Beyond
Your drainage ditch is part of a larger system that’s meant to handle stormwater and other runoff on commercial property, industrial property, or similar large pieces of land. That system may include stormwater basins, culverts, and similar features that hold water or move water. The rest of the system won’t work if the drainage ditch doesn’t work.
If a ditch isn’t clogged, the most likely cause of drainage ditch failure is erosion. The ditch needs to maintain a specific shape for the water to end up in a very specific spot. Just as an airplane needs to stay on the runway, the water needs to stay in the drainage ditch.
The other parts of your stormwater management system may be functioning fine, but the ditch is not. Or, put another way, the drainage ditch may be working too well: It keeps taking on more and more water. That excess water may be why the ditch is eroding. It’s a relatively small space, and it fills up quickly. If there’s a problem, it will happen quickly, because the drainage ditch doesn’t handle much water except for when there’s heavy rainfall. You may not see the failure of the drainage ditch real-time, but you see its results and know it needs to be fixed.
Lakeshore Guys® can repair and restore your drainage ditch. We work primarily in Minnesota or Wisconsin but we can travel as needed. Our erosion-control methods for ditches include:
- Lining the banks of the ditch with concrete erosion-control mattresses (like Flexamat) or best-in-the-business riprap, so as to form a revetment that prevents the ditch from widening
- Lining the bottom of the ditch with well-secured filter fabric and riprap (or smaller stone), so as to slow down the flow of water just enough that it doesn’t slice through the land
- Regrading the land that interacts with the ditch.
- Restoring any stormwater basins that interact with the ditch.
- Possibly other drainage solutions (e.g. native plantings and/or seed, coir logs, geocell, wattle, etc.), or some combination of the above.
Just as our shorelines are built to DNR specifications, our drainage ditch restoration will be similarly up-to-code, and we’re registered Federal Contractors. Contact Lakeshore Guys® today to restore your drainage ditch.
