Apply to Do Side Gigs with Lakeshore Guys
Want to make extra scratch whenever you can, but don’t want to commit to something huge? Consider working with Lakeshore Guys in Forest Lake on an as-needed basis. Most of our work is related to restoring shorelines, and like most big projects, that involves a ton of mini-projects and subtasks.
You could call it a side job, a side gig, a side hustle, temp work, side work, or piecework. You could call yourself a sous chef, a wingman, a pinch hitter, an on-demand stunt man, a go-to guy for hire, etc.
Whatever it is, it’s not typical. Most side-hustle “opportunities” are duds. Either the time commitment is unrealistic, or you have to buy gear you’ll never use again, or you need to learn something you’re not interested in, or the work is lame. Sometimes it’s just a cute idea from a purplehaired blogger who’s never done it and doesn’t know for a fact that you can make any money at it.
A side gig should be simple. Why can’t you just show up with what you have and what you know, be useful for a few hours, and get paid at the end of it? That’s exactly how a Lakeshore Guys side job is.
Some of the gigs are at our shop in Forest Lake, and others may be at a nearby jobsite. With us you’d do straightforward tasks for which we need an extra set of hands and eyes. Some examples of tasks we might need you for include:
- Load or unload a truck
- Help stock up, clean and/or reorganize the shop
- Clean gear, tools, etc.
- Maintain small & heavy equipment
- Bring something to our jobsite
- Lay out and cut fabric
- Load riprap stones into a construction chute on our jobsite
- Shuffle rock around a shoreline
- Install various types of landscape edging
- Install decorative mulch or small stone
- Help install silt fencing within the water
- Cut and trim trees
- Help install various types of staircases
- Grade, rake, shovel, and/or compact the ground on a shoreline we’re constructing
- Feed and groom our oxen and other beasts of burden (not really – just seeing if you’re paying attention)
The tasks may also depend on what you’re good at. For instance, if you’re an ace equipment operator or have worked as a mechanic, we’ll have plenty more for you to do.
We won’t need help every day, and we don’t assume you’ll be available every time we need you. All you’re signing up for is: “Hey, give me a call next time you need something, and I’ll see what I can do.” We’ll put out the Bat-Signal, and if you come by and help, you’ll make enough money to pay a bill and have a good time.
If you want to extend the side work into the winter, we have similar on-demand work for our wintertime business. Also, if we like working together on a side-gig basis, you may have the option to work with us seasonally or full-time.
Apply now if you’re interested in a simple, old-fashioned side gig.
