Wastewater Treatment Pond Erosion Control
Wastewater treatment ponds are modern miracles. It’s a wonder not only that they can process the stuff we flush away, but also that they’re allowed to exist at all, given the insane amount of regulation and the number of things that can go wrong. The liner can rupture. The pumps can clog or break. They can flood and overflow and spread contamination. Wildlife can get trapped. Unobservant people might cast their line in an overlooked fishing hole.
And that’s without erosion. A lagoon is hard enough to maintain even when it maintains the right shape. But that takes on a new level of difficulty and hazard when erosion starts chipping away at the banks. All of a sudden, you’ve got more ways outside water and contaminants can spill in and wastewater can spill out. The erosion may be gradual, but it’s unlikely to stop. Inches of erosion this year can become a feet of erosion in the next few years. At that point, the lagoon is much larger, and its drainage system may not be able to handle the wastewater volume. The ensuing FUBAR situation may spell trouble for your employer, your work-life balance, your community, and everyone’s health.
